Chantal Bond, AIG Life

Chief actuary of the year – Highly Commended: Chantal Bond, AIG Life

The achievements of AIG Life's chief actuary, Chantal Bond, were also felt worthy of special recognition by the judges.

Bond leads the actuarial team at AIG Life which includes reporting, modelling, actuarial projects, research, capital and ALM.

She also has experience in major multinational insurance and bancassurance companies across a wide range of roles.

Since Bond joined AIG in June 2017, she has focused on positioning the balance sheet for future growth and supporting the company's strategic aspirations.

In 2018, Bond led the actuarial workstream for the acquisition of group protection provider Ellipse, a key expansion of AIG's capabilities in the UK insurance market.

Bond is committed to the actuarial profession and is a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Life Board, as well as being involved in numerous industry groups.

She wants to encourage the next generation of actuaries and has instigated a new actuarial internship programme at AIG Life.

Bond's key contribution to the business lies in managing solvency, liquidity and balance sheet volatility in a firm which is growing rapidly, and which is operating in an uncertain macroeconomic context.

Some of her other achievements over the last 12-18 months include proposing innovative and efficient reinsurance structures for risk management purposes and overseeing deals to implement these.

She has also engaged closely with the industry on actuarial topics, especially on Solvency II matters.

The judges particularly praised Bond for making a real difference to the business she works in and the profession she is helping to shape.
