The inaugural pricing solution of the year award goes to Milliman for its AccuRate concept, which combines vehicle telematics data with reported accidents to quantify risk within commercial vehicle fleets. By integrating behavioural driving data with historical loss outcomes, AccuRate produces a defensible, actuarially sound assessment of fleet risk for insurance pricing, underwriting and risk management.
So far, the AccuRate scoring methodology has been filed with and approved by 42 state departments of insurance, allowing insurers and new market entrants to launch admitted products quickly while maintaining regulatory compliance. The score has also been adopted by multiple telematics service providers (TSPs) and TSP aggregators as a standardised safety score for fleet customers.
Recent history shows AccuRate has been adopted by an insurtech managing general agent (MGA) as a core pricing input for a new excess and surplus commercial auto programme. The firm scaled rapidly and profitably, doubling its reinsurance capacity within two years. Over time, the MGA accumulated sufficient proprietary data to develop internal models and an admitted product, using AccuRate as a benchmark and transition tool during its maturation.
Another case study put forward by Milliman was that of a leading TSG aggregator that deployed AccuRate as a pricing and underwriting score offered to insurance partners. As adoption increased, the aggregator recognised additional value in making the score visible to fleet clients as a safety and loss‑control metric.
