InsuranceERM Annual Awards 2024 - UK & Europe

Diversity and inclusion excellence award: LCP

LCP's commitment to training and raising awareness on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the past year, as well as building on existing initiatives, helped it take this excellence award.

In the past 12 months, the London-based consultancy has brought in a dedicated DEI specialist and introduced compulsory DEI e-learning across the whole firm and created resources for staff including internal guides on accessible drafting and communications.

Zoe BurdoLCP has also increased its effort to use data to measure and track its DEI progress through an internal senior sponsorship campaign. The firm claims over 80% of its staff have now shared their diversity information, giving LCP a greater understanding to inform future initiatives and targets.

Zoe Burdo, DEI manager at LCP, tells InsuranceERM the wider industry collaboration on DEI is key to widespread success in this area.

"It's not really about how we set ourselves apart, it's about how we can encourage others to share too.

"One of the things that we've been really focused on is doing more knowledge sharing.

"You see a lot of good conversations happening in pockets and you see progress in different areas and one of the things that we're really keen to do is to start to bring a lot of that together."

Jinita ShahBurdo explains its internal guides are being made available to other members of the insurance community free of charge in order to drive progress.

In response to UK regulators' proposals to introduce new rules around DEI, Jinita Shah, a partner at LCP, adds the firm is planning an industry discussion in Q2 to examine the potential impacts of these changes.

Shah explains the roundtable will be comprised of "whoever the right person in an insurance firm is" who will discuss "how they're preparing for these proposals when they do come into play, and what kind of challenges they're facing and get them to share ideas with each other".
