InsuranceERM Asia Pacific Awards 2025

Best use of artificial intelligence in risk management: CAPE Analytics

CAPE Analytics (CAPE) has officially "shingled" out the competition, winning best use of artificial intelligence (AI) in risk management at the InsuranceERM Asia Pacific Awards 2025 for its AI-powered roof analytics.

CAPE, a Moody's company, first introduced AI-driven property intelligence to the insurance sector in 2016, using aerial imagery and machine learning to assess roof conditions and other vulnerability factors.

Independent studies soon showed that this image-derived approach predicts future claims more accurately than traditional methods, and insurers across APAC and North America now rely on CAPE's actuarially validated Roof Condition Rating to guide underwriting, pricing and risk management.

The win recognises CAPE's major advances in 2024–2025, including its fifth-generation Roof Condition model, which applies sophisticated AI and computer vision to overcome challenges such as shadowing, vegetation and image variability while offering transparent and clear decisions. It also celebrates the launch of CAPE's imagery-based Roof Age model, which uses historical aerial imagery and change detection to determine the year of the last roof replacement, and according to the company offers 95% accuracy., giving insurers a consistent, verifiable source of truth.

With coverage across Australia, New Zealand, and expanding APAC markets, CAPE's insights help insurers segment risk more precisely, reduce inspection costs, and deliver clearer, fairer customer experiences.

For this reason, the judging panel described Cape's award entry as a convincing use case of AI in insurance underwriting and other relevant activities.
